What does the DMI Mobile Music Lab do?

Using mobile music technology, the MML modular curriculum is designed to introduce the basics of songwriting, commercial music instruments, audio recording, and video production to students interested in music technology and media arts.

How much does it cost to bring the MML to my school or organization?

For in-school or after school programming within the 18 county region of the Mississippi Delta, there is currently no charge for a visit by the DMI Mobile Music Lab.

Can any student participate on the MML bus?

The MML modular program/curriculum is designed to engage students ages 11-18. Additional/alternate activities for other ages are available as schedule permits and must be arranged a minimum of 2 weeks in advance.

For Healing with a Groove (HWG), young men of color is defined as vulnerable African American, Native American, Latino/Hispanic American, Asian American, Pacific Islander, Native Hawaiian, Arab American, and European American children and families within their communities. Participants are required to submit an application with a short essay and reference letter.

How many students can be on the bus at one time?

The bus is a 26′ lab/studio. We’re pretty full with 8-9 small students or 5-6 large students and 2-3 MML staffers. We try and keep a 4 to 1 student/instructor ration when we can.

HWG can support up to 1o students per module.

Does someone from my school or organization need to be on the bus during a tour or program?

No, but a representative/resource from your school or organization is required to be on site and available when the bus is scheduled.

How many weeks does the MML program last?

The length of time for the MML program may vary according to a school or organization’s schedule and needs. The MML works with your schedule to facilitate the best scheduling for all involved.

HWG is delivered over the course of four weeks. Participants meet 3 one-hour sessions per week on MWF or 2 one and one-half hour sessions per week on TR.

What if I just want to book the bus for a tour?

Tours of the MML are available as schedule permits and must be arranged a minimum of 2 weeks in advance.
